Dallas Regional Medical Center (DRMC) recently received the 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals.

This award recognizes hospitals for their performance in safeguarding patients from serious, potentially preventable complications during their hospital stay. These hospitals are in the top 10 percent in the nation for patient safety, according to Healthgrades.

This is the second year in a row that DRMC has received this award.

“We're so proud and honored to have received back-to-back Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Awards. Our top priority is always patient safety, so these awards really show us that we're meeting our goals and providing great care,” said Glenda Matchett, DRMC CEO. “I've said it before, but it's our great staff and providers who deserve the credit. They are dedicated to our patients and work tirelessly to ensure all needs are met.”

Patient safety measures how well a hospital prevents injuries, infections and other serious conditions based on 14 serious, potentially preventable adverse events.

“We are proud to recognize the recipients of the 2019 Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award, which shines a spotlight on the hospitals that are preventing the occurrence of serious, potentially avoidable complications, for patients during their hospital stay,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer of Healthgrades. “We applaud these hospitals and their commitment to providing the best possible care for every patient.”

Additionally, DRMC is a Five-Star recipient for Appendectomy, 2019, Pacemaker Procedures, 2018 and 2019, and Hip Fracture Treatment, 2018 and 2019.

A five-star rating indicates that a hospital's clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated, according to Healthgrades.
