Dallas Regional Medical Center opened in 1964 as Mesquite Memorial Hospital.
The hospital had 27 beds, five bassinets, one operating room, one delivery
room, an Emergency Room and seven physicians on staff. The hospital was
expanded in 1975, purchased by Charter Medical Corporation in 1976 and
renamed Charter Suburban Hospital. The campus continued to grow through
the 1980's with the purchase of a three-story medical office building.
In 1990, the hospital underwent another ownership and name change when
Paracelsus Healthcare Corporation, later known as Clarent Hospital Corporation,
renamed the hospital Medical Center of Mesquite. Today, Dallas Regional
Medical Center is a member of Prime Healthcare Services, a nationally
renowned healthcare system.
A full-service Heart Center was established in 1991. The Heart Center included
a cardiac cath lab, open-heart surgery, cardiac rehabilitation, a centralized
outpatient diagnostic and surgery area and a new Emergency Department.
Since this time, a second cardiac cath lab has opened and nuclear medicine/special
procedures have continued to grow.
The hospital campus expanded in 1994 with the acquisition of commercial
property located to the south of the medical office building. This property
today contains both hospital office space and physician office practices.
In 1996, a three-story patient tower was constructed on the north end
of the hospital. This tower currently houses a 14-bed Surgical Intensive
Care Unit on the first floor, a 10-bed Orthopedic Unit and Total Joint
Center on the second floor, and a new Cardiac Care Unit on the third floor
with 26 private suites that opened in May 2009. In 1998, a parking lot
behind the medical office building was constructed, allowing for an additional
100 parking spaces. One acre of land north of the Emergency Department
was purchased in 2000.
In 2005, we expanded the busy Emergency Department into the current 23-bed
unit, with eight Fast Track bays. The hospital name was changed to Dallas
Regional Medical Center in 2007.
Today, Dallas Regional Medical Center is licensed for 202 beds and is accredited
by The Joint Commission. Throughout 2008 and 2009, the hospital has undergone
extensive renovation and construction projects that have resulted in a
modern and progressive hospital to serve people in Mesquite and the surrounding
