Dallas Regional Medical Center employees, physicians and community celebrated an important addition to the Cardiovascular Program with the opening of a new Cardiac Care Unit on May 14. Festivities at the hospital included the ribbon cutting for the unit that features 26 private suites on the third floor of the north tower.
Open for patients on May 26, the hospital has worked for the last year toward this day. “This advanced unit is a huge benefit for the people of Mesquite, and we are proud to offer this level of facility in our community,” said Justin Davis, CEO of the hospital. The unit is dedicated solely to cardiac care. It complements the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and the Progressive Care Unit, which are used for patients with various diagnoses and conditions.
Each private suite is beautifully appointed with natural finishes such as wood and marble, and features a soothing color palate. For the comfort of the patient's family, the rooms are spacious enough to include a pull-out couch and reclining chair.
Hospital officials said that the project finished early and under budget. Helman, Hurley, Charvat and Peacock Architects designed the expansion, and Beck Group served as the general contractor. Construction began in December 2008 after a special wall-breaking ceremony.
DRMC Chief of Staff Srinivas Gunukula, Mesquite Chamber of Commerce President Terry McCullar, and other officials spoke at the ceremony.
